NOTE: Currently we are looking for facilitators to run the 12 Step Program in a couple of areas. First for the Clients of Roosevelt Mission and the public of Greene county, as well as for the offenders at WVCF (Wabash Valley Correctional Facility). To be a facilitator you need to be a believer in Jesus Christ and attend a local church regularly. Also, you will need to attend facilitator training and be committed to stay throughout the training process. ARTICLE FROM THE LINTON DAILY CITIZEN PUBLISHED DECEMBER 1ST 2003 BY BETH CLARK
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36 That is one of the scriptures a new program offered at the Roosevelt Mission is based on. Beginning Monday at the mission in Linton, Stepping Into Freedom will be offered to those who abuse alcohol and narcotics. "It is a Christ-centered, 12-step program for alcoholics and narcotics users said Jerry French, director at the mission. French noted that the program is designed to "help alcohol and narcotics users to get free of their addiction through foundation of Jesus Christ." There are two differences between Stepping Into Freedom is based on the Lordship of Jesus Christ, where AA talks about a power greater than ourselves that can restore us to sanity," said French. The second difference is that in AA "you are an alcoholic for the rest of your life, this is contrary to the saving power of Jesus Christ," according to French. "That is the goal in this program is to show you a true road to freedom," said Duvivier. Duvivier knows first hand what that freedom means. He was an addict who had gone through several court ordered rehabilitation programs. "In my seven years of being free and clean God has allowed me the chance to work with a lot of people who are going down the same road I was on," said Duvivier. The program lasts for 12 weeks. "They can keep going through it until they get the freedom they are seeking." said French. Once a person completes the Stepping Into Freedom program, there is another program at the mission that can help. "Turning Point is a great Christian building program and it will help sustain them," said French. For more information, call the mission at 847-8110.
